Charles R. Both

Charles Both has effectively represented individual employees and groups of employees, labor organizations and employee benefit plans in cases involving a wide range of employment issues such as, most notably, employment discrimination, wrongful terminations, health and pension benefits and internal union disputes. He is recognized for especially successful representation of victims of unlawful discrimination in housing. Charles Both has successfully handled suits under the Employee-Retirement Income and Security Act (ERISA) with issues involving fiduciary and third-party liability, federal tax, asset reversion and collection of unpaid contributions.

During the past several years, Charles Both has worked extensively to advance international human rights on behalf of clients who are opponents of corrupt and harshly oppressive foreign regimes.

Charles Both grew up in New York City and is a graduate of Cornell University and the Georgetown University Law Center where he was an editor of the Georgetown Law Journal. After work as an appellate attorney at the NLRB and at the Washington, D.C. firm of Cole & Groner, he joined in establishing Yablonski Both & Edelman in 1975.

Charles Both has been a leader in the Bar. He served as chairman of the Labor Relations section of the D.C. Bar and as a member of the ABA Committee on Development of the Law of Union Administration and Procedure. He has also served on the boards of the Washington Lawyers Committee for Civil Rights under Law and the Washington Metropolitan Fair Housing Council. He is a member of the bars of the U.S. Supreme Court and several U.S. Courts of Appeals.

Charles Both has received awards from the Washington Lawyers Committee for Civil Rights under Law for championing the rights of victims of housing discrimination.
